Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 Ad Campaign
Editorial spreads in the world's best fashion magazines are heavily featuring the ruching, shearling and ruggedly appealing Burberry Prorsum fall collection. The look is glamorous with a touch of no-nonsense, country-bound aviator. And every time I see a perfectly applied pleat or sophisticatedly layered look in the subdued color palette, I quickly realize it's Burberry.
Yet, how many of us are living on a Burberry budget? Sure, it's beautiful to look at and dream about stomping through the English countryside in luxury apparel. But I decided to do some digging and noticed some great alternatives.
This year's Rag & Bone fall collection is so similar to Burberry Prorsum's. And while its pieces may not be exact replicas (where's the creativity in that?), they appear to be Burberry's suitable sibling and even pick up where Burberry left off with Fair Isle sweaters, tweed skirts and casual jackets.
With which coat would you rather be in the TRENCHES?
Burberry Wool Shearling Military Panel Coat from Neiman Marcus
Rag & Bone Covent Trench from Shopbop
And how about an understated yet sophisticated day-to-night dress from either brand?
Burberry Ruched Bodice Zip Dress from Neiman Marcus
Rag & Bone Beauchamp Dress from Shopbop
And I could definitely see this pair layered beneath the stylish Burberry trench...
Rag & Bone Grayling Sweater from Shopbop
But Rag & Bone isn't the only company on the same page as the Brits. Check out the shearling aviator jackets from Burberry and ADAM.

How about this feminine lace number from Burberry and A.L.C?

And everyone needs a pencil skirt, whether it's by Burberry or another popular brand...
Burberry Prorsum Plisse Pencil Skirt from Neiman Marcus
Pencey Ruched Mini Skirt
Finally, take a cue from Burberry and pair your fall dress and skirts with sharp over-the-knee boots. But keep in mind, the top of the boot should be covered by the skirt's hem. The look is sleek and sophisticated, not Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman."

Sam Edelman Vesey Over-the-Knee Boot from Shopbop
Burberry Python Thigh-High Boot from Net-A-Porter
Dolce Vita Braeden Suede Over The Knee Boot
Taking a cue from luxury brands can be a great way to get the look for less. You can probably dig even deeper and find even more affordable alternatives to MY alternatives.
But, for now, tap into your inner Amelia Earhart and let your imagination fly away to the lush green hills of England. I'll be imagining myself in these fabulous looks created by some very stylish Brits.
Cheerio!
Wow Linds...keen eye for the Rag and Bone/Burberry similarities. I never would have thought of that! Loved the Rag and Bone goodies at Vermillion when we were there. Incredibly wearable and RELATIVELY affordable ;). Burberry is rockin' it - just launched their make up line as well! Thanks for filling me in on these fashions.
ReplyDeletedigging the over the knee boots, worth the purchase or you think next year I will say what was I thinking??
ReplyDeleteYou know, last year I was not at all on board with the whole over-the-knee thing. BUT seeing them styled with the dress covering the top of the boot makes me like them way more. If more people wore them like that, I think they would catch on faster. So I would go for it!! Maybe just don't invest tooooo much because they are trendy but they make such an impact!
ReplyDeleteI like the sweater w/ the shorts outfit. That is my fave combo for the fall. Too bad mine doesn't look as trendy but atleast I have some inspiration. Glad you finally did a boots post. Now I know where to start :) Love!!
