Currently Coveting: Aerin Culloden Lamp

http://bit.ly/1rnbyxa

A good lamp is hard to find. Am I right, ladies? Sometimes you go looking so hard for THE ONE that you force the love and try to so hard to make it work. Then things just don't and you leave with regrets and shame...and maybe a smaller bank account. And then it happens. When you stop looking for it, you find THE ONE. There are so many factors that go into finding the right lighting for you: your lamp of choice has to be the proper height, width, color, and PRICE. I've seen many a beautiful lamp that costs well over $500...for just one lamp! I've also found great looking, affordable lamps that turn out to be 10" tall. Will there ever be a happy ending??

When Aerin Lauder rolled out her line of home furnishings, I instantly fell smitten with her pebbled Culloden Lamp. It was love at first sight. The beautiful blue watercolor scheme, the textured pebbled base, the glamorous gilded accents at the finial and harp...you had me at hello. And still, the gorgeous guy was a bit out of my reach with its $420-$515 price tag (depending where you shop). Imagine my delight today when fairy godmother Horchow included the Culloden Lamp, among other things, in its Finders Savers Event! Through tomorrow only, the lamp is 40% off!! Is this lamp cheap? Heck no. Smart girls know the value of a dollar. But it is a good deal...dare I say, a once in a lifetime deal...

How would I use the Culloden Lamp in my life, you ask? I would play up that pebbled texture, those gorgeous watercolor blues and the entire nature-at-its-most-glamorous vibe.

Horchow has tons of other great pieces included in this sale. Shop them below and let me know when you find the one to light up your life...wherever and whenever that may be.

Golden Delicious

Welcome to the first day of fall! It's that time of year when we predictably see an onslaught of grey, black and navy clothing options. When you're a pale redhead, grey and black pretty much only look good on you in the dark. So imagine my delight when I noticed this year that, if you look very closely, there is actually some color out there!

It seems that more than ever before we have a wide range of warm toned fall colors at our disposable. Burnt orange, tangerine, warm blush, antique rose and burgundy are just a few of the gorgeous fall tones designers gravitated toward for Fall 2014. The overall effect is one of optimism and happiness rather than the seriousness and somberness brought with typical black and grey. Ground your warm autumnal hues with olive green and camel to keep your look more modern and less crazy cat lady. For that very reason, I highly recommend NOT mixing patterns in these color families or you can quickly venture into "Revenge of the Nerds" status. Here are a few of my most coveted finds below...

Spring 2015 Trend Report

To paraphrase Tom Ford in a recent interview, designers don't actually get together before every Fashion Week to select fabrics or share silhouettes...as much as it may seem like they do. At the offset, trends are fashion editors' ways of resetting the table after the visual feast they've devoured for the past 10 days and then their reinterpretations of the fashion shows trickle down into sales tactics, merchandising schemes and low end regurgitations. But it is fun to pretend that the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte sat across from Prabal Gurung and Ralph Lauren during a Spring strategic planning session in order to designate looks, textiles and beauty schemes. (Note to designers: please invite me to the meeting if a session actually does take place!)  At any rate, Spring, just like any other season, did see some similarities across the runways. Here are some of my favorites are below!

Cutouts:
Keep them subtle and they'll take you far. If Lela is doing it, then all preppy Southern ladies should...and I imagine they (we) were the last holdouts against this trend.

3.1 Phillip Lim/ Lela Rose/ Alexander Wang

Statement Coats:
After a long winter of bulky layers and heavy coats, if you still have to don outerwear in the spring, then it needs to be special. Leave it to the standouts of 2015 to make you wish for the slightest nip in the air come April.

J.Crew/ Suno/ Tory Burch

Yellow:
What can we say about yellow that everyone doesn't already know? It's bright, cheerful and youthful. Energize your closet should you feel worn out next spring.

Nanette Lepore/ Diane von Furstenberg/ Veronica Beard

Minimalism:
Keep it clean and you'll always be in style.

Rag & Bone/ Jason Wu/ The Row

Did you notice any interesting trends on the Spring fashion runways? Of course, there were many more but these were some if the most interesting and applicable to real life in my humble opinion. Will you try to work any into your wardrobe? I hope to make one of those statement coats mine...maybe it will be a cool spring in the south!

Malachite Madness

personal photo

 via Veranda

Bringing elements from nature into your home is one of the best sources of inspiration. While malachite is technically a crystallized mineral formed from weathered copper ores, it also happens to be one of the most glamorous home accent options around. Pair it with brass for major doses of fabulosity or with black and white for an organic pop of color. From fabrics on chairs to specks on the corners of a picture frame, you can find malachite for all areas in your domain.

Could you use a touch of malachite in your home? How would you use it or do you have some already?

Autumn's Indoor Accents

With the deliciousness of fall inventory rolling out in stores and on sites across America, it's easier than ever to give your own home a little autumnal update. Nate Berkus debuted some fabulous and fun fall pieces for Target, West Elm offered up more brass and sass than ever while Serena & Lily upped the sophistication ante with sumptuous silks, smooth lacquers and nubby natural fibers.

If you want to make your home feel more fall-ish, by far the easiest way is to change out the accessories on your table tops and mantles. A faux fur throw is a no brainer as are velvet pillows. Of course, you can take it to the max with dark leather sofas and brass lighting. No matter what changes you make, the overall feel will be timeless and cozy. In fact, that's one of my favorite things about fall- no matter what's on trend, the pieces still feel classic.
