Yesterday I professed my genuine style admiration for New York-based Shala Monroque. As I wrote yesterday's post, I started wondering what would Shala wear now and where would she shop...if she was on a bit of a budget.
Harper's Bazaar
Today I present you with Shala-worthy sartorial finds. I was especially enthralled with her love of patterns, mainly on skirts and dresses, as I myself once owned many a patterned skirt. I tried to create outfits that followed her fashion formula- bold colors, ethnic or interesting patterns and bright baubles. On top of that, I tried to keep the combinations ladylike and elegant with a dose of humor and a lot of joie de vivre. Let me just say that finding bright clothes (on a real girl's budget) that convey such optimism was no easy task during not only this cooler, bleaker season but also these cooler, bleaker times. But if Shala can do it, so can we!
So here's to brightening things up! Who says you can't be colorful all year long?!
Look #1:
Beaded Swag Necklace from Anthropologie
Blossoming Trees Cuff
Look #3:
Ribbon Swell Pumps from Anthropologie
Look #4:
Lightspeed Faille Skirt
And the perfect feminine coat:
Curtsey Coat from Anthropologie
Plus a hint of edge:
Ash Studded Engineer Boot from Shopbop
With clothes like these, you'd certainly be able to buy less pieces and get more bang for your buck. Imagine if you didn't stow away all your bright summer colors automatically result to black when the temperature dropped! Monroque-ian style has encouraged me to try to work in more of my favorite warm weather favorites and, today, I truly am in a better mood!
If you're interested in more Shala-esque finds, let me know! I had a great time imagining what she might select. But as I mentioned, it was a bit challenging keeping within a certain price range during the beginning of fall and winter.
Happy Shala Shopping!
this post convinced me to hit up anthro this weekend!
ReplyDeleteHaha- I know, I tried to find pieces from other websites but Anthro just had it going on in this category! If there was one in Wilmington, I would have been there at least twice this week already and probably a few times earlier this month too.
ReplyDeleteWow, these outfits are killer! I love the use of color and the unexpected elements that somehow many everything go together. I would not think to pair animal print shoes with any other type of print because I can be a little shy when it comes to mixing prints, but this looks perfect!
