Derby Days

Happy Friday, everyone! Do you have big plans this weekend? Maybe you're gathering for a little Kentucky Derby action?

Whether you're heading to Churchill Downs for the 138th Run for the Roses or just enjoying some bourbon in your backyard, appropriate derby attire is a non-negotiable. In Wilmington, a fabulous crowd will gather at the Junior League's 4th Annual Mint Julep Jubilee and the choosing the right look is almost as important as betting on the right horse!

When you're getting ready to start drinking mint juleps this Saturday, keep a few style tips in mind:

1- A great hat is a must. Not only is it going to take your look into derby territory, but it's also going to protect your gorgeous skin from sun damage...unless you wear a fascinator. In either case, wear sunscreen!

2- Choose accessories with no fuss. Simple studs and a ring or two are all you really need. You'll be trucking up and down the yard checking out the horses or the silent auction prizes and you don't need heavy chains or bangles rattling like a cow bell.

3- Wear a dress made from a natural, breathable material: linen, cotton and silk blends will keep you cool and comfortable on this 90 degree day.

4- Finally, keep your feet firmly on the ground in wedges, flats or really sturdy stacked heels. Sinking in stilettos gives you too much of a horse trot and no one wants their gate compared to that of Bodemeister.

Now we're off! Choose your horse wisely...and your attire too!
