I am 100% a diamonds girl so you know that if my Best Dressed from the Oscars is an actress wearing a gown entirely made of pearls, it MUST be good! Presenter Lupita Nyong'o stole the show once again this year when she arrived last night in this custom Calvin Klein Collection column. Her look was head to toe perfection! The dress was made of 6000 pearls and every single one was in the exact right place. A huge round of applause to Francisco Costa and his CK team!
Unfortunately, there were very few other Red Carpet moments as striking as hers. I didn't feel that any other looks really knocked it out of the park although there were certainly some fabulous frocks on display. Kerry Washington, Jennifer Aniston and Julianne Moore got the beaded nude hues memo although each of their interpretations were very different. Washington brought a dose of the unexpected with a Miu Miu peplum paired with a straight, beaded skirt. Nominee Aniston got it right when it counted with her slit-up-to-there Versace number. The tailoring on her gown was perfection. And Moore, also a nominee, went all out glam in custom sequined Chanel. Had the second row of embellishments not played up the dress's drop waist, I would have chosen her for Best Dressed of the night. (I mean, hellooooo, it's Chanel!)
We also saw beading from the darker side of the spectrum. Naomi Watts rocked fashion's current cut-out trend with this Armani Prive gunmetal gray and black beaded dress. Nominee Laura Dern very nearly achieved medieval goddess status in Alberta Ferretti. Her stylist should have simplified her look by removing the necklace and leaving the bag with her publicist though.
And I PROMISE I looked for color on the Red Carpet!! Presenter Dakota Johnson looked lovely in this red Saint Laurent. The one silver beaded strap saved this dress from snoozeville...and I might have a soft spot for a ponytail during a formal event.
