Blue Notes

Do you literally feel a twinge of pain every time you reach for your coat or pull on a wool sweater? This winter has lasted long enough, thank you very much! While we may still need to wear pants and boots to combat these frigid temps, there's no reason we can't start layering our new spring favorites underneath for a breath of fresh air. Some of my favorite pieces I've ever purchased were Resort or Pre-Fall pieces- those in-between season options can be some of the most wearable year round. Choose a classic color for your purchases between now and April and you'll be in business all year long...or at least til next winter. I shudder at the thought.

Style Summit

Some of you sweet readers may already know that my li'l sis and her hubby have been in Tanzania since June. Last week, the two of them led a group of 15 teenagers to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro! This feat is unbelievable to me and I'm thrilled that the two of them got to share this experience not only with the kids on their trip but also with each other.

Their long hike got me thinking about a little safari-inspired style...for us and for our homes...

Can't wait for my sis and her husband's return to the States soon. For now, those of us in the Northern Hemisphere can live vicariously with a little leopard accent here or zebra wallcovering there.

The Look for Less: Lela Rose

There's no doubt that we've seen a lot of printed pants lately and they're not going anywhere anytime soon. Being a slightly pear shaped lady, I felt a bit reluctant to join in on this trend. However, I did try on these adorable Lela Rose printed trousers and they looked so cute, I nearly laid down my credit card for them. What stopped me, you ask: the hefty price tag. Six hundred ninety-five dollars in fact. Sigh.

Lucky for us, a much more affordable option has been born. Meet Topshop's $80 alternative. For more than $600 in savings, I think I can sacrifice a little name brand luxury if I really need a printed pant.

Don't get me wrong- some pieces can be worth a high price. But, for me, someone who reluctantly met the printed pant to begin with, investing almost $700 just doesn't compute. Would you wear either version?
