We fashion types can act like we dress up every day or get invited to glamorous events every night but let's get real. Most days I'm running around in shorts and a t-shirt or jeans and a button down. Packin It Up: Fashion Week

Technically, this post is a hypothetical packing list as I am not going to make it to Fashion Week this week...or next. But I was SUPPOSED to and had a mental list all prepared. You'll notice that these looks are grounded in neutrals and mostly black. Not that I want to look like one of those mean Brooklyn-ites off "Gallery Girls" but this fall's black is anything but basic. Doses of lightweight whites brighten the mood. It is technically still summer after all.

Wednesday's Look For Less: Fall Flats

Had you been in my office this morning, you would have heard me proclaim that I have no idea what day it is. All this traveling plus a holiday and being lost at all times has got me out of my sanity zone. However, at 6:40 p.m. Mountain Time, it has just now dawned on me that I had a Look for Less for you and it's Wednesday! 

How cute are these little flats? What do you officially call them- fall flats? Winter sandals? Only in the South, right?? 

The flats on the right are precious Loeffler Randalls that ring up at $225. Guess what- that's cheap for a pair of Loefflers. But the pair on the left I found on sale at Piperlime for $65. And they are by Joie! Granted, they are a bit summery with the espadrille sole but in what really cold weather could you actually wear the suede Loefflers anyway. (Don't even think about putting on socks unless they are super cute wool ones and you wear these with jeans or you are Alexa Chung.)

Lately

It has been WAY too long since my last post but I have a good excuse! Last Wednesday, I hopped a plane to Santa Fe for work and will be here for one whole month. For a fashion horse like me, it was all about strategic packing...

 Luckily, Labor Day weekend fell right after I arrived and I was able to hop yet another flight to Dallas to visit my beau and his family. We had a great, fun-filled time and also ran into Roberto Cavalli's Red Carpet replicas and originals in a fancy Fashion's Night Out display. Don't you love this dress that Victoria Beckham wore in 2005 to the White Tie and Tiara Ball?? I learned from a reliable source that Posh actually bought this dress after the event but a new release of this gorgeous Chinoise silk may be in the works...

Of course, my fur babies got in some pool time...

While I got in these Toms (which, for the record, are super duper comfortable and no Toms have ever fit me right until now)...

And officially began coveting these flats. Classic or crazy?? 

New York Fashion Week starts tomorrow and you better believe I am excited! I'm pretty much sick to my stomach about it as I was supposed to attend next week but got sent to Santa Fe. Le sigh...beggars can't be choosers. 

Stay tuned though...you know Fashion Week won't get by me no matter where I'm sent!

Color Combo Love: Lilac and Navy

One of the best ways to start transitioning your wardrobe is simply through new combinations of color. Take your springy pastels, lilac in this case, and tone them down with navy for a delightful ease into fall. You can even create a casual version of this color combo with an old chambray shirt you already have in your closet. Gold accessories add polish while still keeping your look relaxed.

Of course, you can also just as easily pair last fall's pastel knits with this summer's navy shorts. I have enjoyed pairing this sweater with these shorts (on sale!) for a chic take on weekend wear and a good mix of high and low!

Look For Less: Slippers

Welcome to Wednesday and another Look for Less. Today's topic: the oh so chic slipper. If you know your brands, you'll know right away which of these shoes is the high end version and which is the money saver. I've (poorly) disguised their brand name where possible without compromising the shoes' design. No peeking! So which of these is the Look for Less? 

If you guessed the shoe on the right as the more cost effective choice, then you're right! Of all places, the Gap has a whole slew of precious slippers crying out to soothe your tired, achy feet. Of course, they are imitating the originals, the Stubbs & Wootton on the left. They are buttery and delicious but they are also ten times more expensive. Yep, the Gap option is $40 while the real deal is $400! 

Life might just be too short for cheap wine and cheap shoes. How do you feel about these options? Which one would you choose? 

More Than Cape-able

After a weekend in the cool, non-humid mountains and a rainy welcome home, the approaching fall is on my mind now more than ever. Add to that the sighting of this Banana Republic cape in the September Elle and I'm a goner.

Capelets took last autumn by storm. Designers from Milly to Theory produced stylish toppers for those looking to invest. However, outerwear isn't exactly something that I put a lot of ka-ching into since I live in the South and at the beach. I prefer to spend less in this category whenever possible. So the hunt for more affordable yet stylish capelets began...
